Just a quick update on this thread. The wiring on the crank sensor had been to close to the exhaust downpipe and fried the insulation. New CP sensor and harness, everything is OK Securely strapped away from the exhaust.
Have to say that the bodgers had been there at some point earlier, so there was some kind of home-made harness made to the earlier CP sensor.
All well on this one for now
