Boris & co talked themselves into a corner and despite rising cases didn't want to reverse what they said. Instead they lift the regulations and tell everyone to use common sense carry on as if they're still in place
I for one haven't seen a lot of evidence of common sense at any point in the pandemic.
Personally I don't trust anything Boris comes out with, if he told me it was daylight I'd look out of the window to check.
