Indeed Mike which makes it look even worse for garages:
Assuming the AC belt splits at 70k and I see them at 120k ready to shred, that means they have slipped through 3 inspections
They probably just look at the outside of the main belt round the power steering pulley which usually looks fine.
To inspect the AC belt all that is required is to remove ONE fastener on the undertray and peer in at the AC tensioner roller to see the inner belt.

Very easy Rob (no tools required) :
Feel each front road spring in turn while someone else turns the steering either side of centre.
You can narrow it down to which strut bearing is indented.
Probably both if you were born unlucky
