Yes Billy, as Dave (Stocktake) has said, fit the clips into the channels on the straight pipe and engage the serrated jaws loosely so that you have some grip but are still able to slide the clips within their channels.

With the straight pipe fitted, push both clips outwards so that they are in intimate contact with the water pump housing on one side and the thermostat housing on the other, then squeeze the jaws tightly using a tool such as water pump pliers. This is the vital operation which prevents the straight pipe from sliding from side to side in service. It's easy with the manifold chamber etc. removed but you may have difficulty with only "keyhole" access.
