Job done!! Thanks for all the advice lads!
If I did it again I'd go through the top - reason being I couldn't for the life of me get the new bent pipe in it's hole from the side even with it covered in silicone grease. I tried screwing the bolt in slightly and levering the pipe down on the other side with an extension but ultimately I would have needed to push down on it from above to stand any chance so I ended up reusing the old one which was a tight fit but doable. Also, I just about managed to get some purchase on the clips in there with pliers and they feel solid enough but from above I could probably have tightened another notch with better access for a bigger pair.
Only time will tell now but all seems well. Had a slightly embarrassing electrical problem as per my other thread but hey my daughter had us up most of the night so I can be forgiven lol
