Fair point for sure. However I have noticed that if you completely remove the thumb screw and then try to undo the earth cable end bolt the isolator simply breaks in two (on purpose) leaving a part on the battery terminal and a now very difficult job of trying to remove the earth cable from the stub end of the isolator. I suppose this will certainly cause a delay in trying to connect the battery if you're trying to take the car without permission!

I guess it could be handy if someone has your keys from your house for example?

Any case, the reason for me is to stop the battery draining if my car is rested up for a while without using any tools - and it works great!
