well, I would assume that would be sorted out prior. But adding another name to a policy is not normally that expensive. In my case, for 9 months, I think it was just the 'admin' fee of £20 and the cost of a 10 minute phone call. Obviously that may not always be the case - my policy actually reduces if I add my mother as a named driver to it, even though she refuses to drive it now.
But since she has her own car (reading between the lines), there is a good chance that she will have a policy that will allow her to drive other cars, providing they are already insured (assuming of course it is still insured and NOT SORN'd also).
Ultimately handing the keys over for a day every now and then would be the best all round solution - car would get a run to stop anything 'seizing up', reduces risk of rust forming with the airflow, uses the fuel if needed without having the inconvenience or danger of removing it. Downside though, Wraymond's daughter may not want to hand the car back afterwards.
