Well ... My tailgate gas strut went ping and the retaining plate as well as what was left of the spigot went into the deepest recesses of the car.
First thoughts were to get someone to weld one on but then again ... why would I want something so easy?

So a few Ebay items later and it's done. Okay, not the prettiest job but it certainly works.

Note the nuts are nylock and all fixings are stainless steel.
I'll be cleaning it up later.
The cable tie is so that I didn't lose this B%^&% into the bowels of my car again.
What I would do differently: Spot the problem BEFORE it happened.
