All they do is hold on the channel that attaches to the ducting pieces, presumably because the front edge of the bumper sits lower than on a 75. There is no need to remove then, it's just a shame Rover used mild steel screws.
I had the bumper off at the time so it was easier on a bench and just drilled the heads off, I tried mole grips and they wouldn't budge, plus someone had obviously tried before and snapped a couple off.
I then just used a Dremel to cut away the remains of the U nuts which were corroded anyway.
