Very close indeed, but no harm at all.
The evidence is I added the genuine but modified heat shield several weeks later and I didn't see any damage on the bumper.
I should add that with ethanol smoke may be a bit less hot (Coolant is 82°C instead of 90°C and the the upper engine is actually less hot as well).
