For me, the mpg factor isn't significant enough to consider. Artic makes the point that switching to Eco mode whilst cruising will reduce wear on the fan motor brushes which I can quite see. What makes that unattractive to me though is the relatively quick temperature rise inside the car coupled with having to frequently re-engage the a/c which adds a minor driving distraction, versus the actual brush wear saved.
Having now got the benefit of Artic's new fan & motor, the chances are it'll last as long as the rest of the car, so the Eco button can expect to be pressed about four times a year.
