I blame the Internet. Not that I like to use the blame word.
Back in the day we'd moan to our mates down the pub and fellow workers and for the most part that would be it.
Now we have a very efficient tool; social media. It's given a megaphone to all and sundry to shout out their opinions on all matters that they are exspurts in. And folks feed off it. Stuff gets blown out of all proportion. It gets stoked up by the media, then the politicals, then the experts then the voters and keeps on going. Then we get those who've been forgotten, so their cause gets championed by someone who wants to make a name for themselves. And on it goes.
If its not partygate, its the NHS, the cost of living or even a certain political union.
Meanwhile the world burns and folks get upset over the most petifogging of trivia. Is it feet 'n' inches or centimetres and metres?
We have a responsibility here, but we'd rather offload it all onto someone else then moan about them when they come to a conclusion different from what we'd have come to.
Tragic really.
