I always start at the driver's door end and finish the other end, make sure you don't rip the covering over the centre console as it's very tight there, especially with a walnut dash.
I use a credit card or similar to protect it (it also helps to make the dash slide in easier). Don't forget to connect the clock and the thumb wheel to the cable if you disconnected it.
