As Ron predicted, there is insufficient refrigerant in the system so the trinary switch has disabled compressor engagement to prevent damage.
As you said there appear to be no mobile independent specialists in or near Settle so you'll need to enquire at Peugeot main dealer F.H. Ellis or the JLR Ribblesdale Service Centre, both of whom ought to be able to re-gas your system.
