Fixed the rattling heat shield. The area around the oversized washers had disintegrated so time for a new method of repair.
A video on YouTube suggests using a bottle cap to avoid a reaction with the aluminium but unfortunately a bottle top wasn't going to cut it with size of hole I had. I decided to use the bottoms of four cans of coca cola (other brands are available). I drilled an 8mm hole in each of the cans, using snips cut off the bottom of the cans (be careful at this stage, I put a large gash in my thumb after catching it on the edge of the can) and then flattened them with a rubber mallet.
I fitted them using a longer 10mm bolt than the one already fitted. I put a new large washer on top of the aluminium can for extra strength. Hopefully this will slow down the process that disintegrates the heat shield.
