The index takes into account the cost of repairs, not just how frequently it breaks down. So if the clutch fails on two cars only once in 10 years, a £500 bill for say a Ford Fiesta replacement (parts and labour) is going to compare more favourably than a Maserati Quattroformaggio at say £2,000.
