I used the pin method on a friends Golf, he wanted me to drive him about in which was a bit weird with the headlining draped over my ears! I wasnt sure whether it would work so wasnt too symetrical with the pattern, in hindsight, as it worked perfectly I wish i had been a bit more precise.
I worked from the centre line and worked outwards and used pins with pearl heads.
I wouldnt hesitate to do the same on my car if the need arose, who really notices the headlining, only the rear seat passengers really see it.
