The crack can get bigger, let moisture and dirt in, ruin the reflector, cause bulb warning issues. Also at dusk some evening, you are turning with your headlights on, a car coming out of the junction does not see the indicator clearly and stupidly drives out in your path. The radiator gets punctured and drains, blowing the head gasket of your car that was going to be written off anyway as the bumper was damaged. You now spend over 10 pounds worth of calls to various insurance company departments and latterly scrap yards for parts, not forgetting the 10 plus hours of your time to sort it all out. It did not fail the mot though
It is about 30 mins to change an hour if the fittings are rusted in, and 10 or 15 quid for replacement. Plus the satisfaction that you have done something positive to your car. (That's how I see it anyway).
