Not necessarily Billy. If you look again at the photo, imagine a possible break in the circular seal surrounding the coolant port which creates a passage between coolant and no. 5 cylinder intake. In that particular case there would be no route for coolant to enter the 'V'. However I would also expect coolant to be sucked into no. 5 cylinder.
I'm not saying that this has definitely happened on your car, I'm simply reading the evidence you've presented and trying to suggest possible causes. A smell of unburnt petrol in the expansion tank is unusual to say the least!
