For those particularly fastidious, dropping the sump every few years was always a good chance to clean any crud from the oil pickup too - in most of the cars I've done this to, I've found a couple of bits stuck up there.
Usually the K Series camshaft cover flaking away as they tend to do, and finding its way to the sump.

I've got a Sealey TP69 (looks suspiciously like a Pela 650) which gets the oil out pretty quickly. In fact it takes longer to clean the pump out afterwards than it does to change the oil! The pump is great if you're not changing the filter (undertray!).
Maybe I'll whip the sump off next time and see if I can find anything (a few gold sovereigns would be handy
).
