Having had no knowledge of a charcoal canister, and having now acquainted myself with it, I can say with some new-found authority (the forum ) that only petrol models have one. Every day's a school day.

I'd also thought of a split pipe - probably plastic - as a repair but using two halves is probably a better solution. I happen to have a length of exhaust pipe so will mull it over whilst finishing the parking sensors job.
