Did it overheat before ??? Why do you thing you have COOKED the engine.
The turbo doesn't do anything on tick over.----

--( except leak oil if the bearings are shot. )

You say it has a thirst for oil. If it's been burning it then you would, for some time, have had a cloud of smoke following you around.---
