If you're not pressing the button immediately after ''test 1.-'' appears, you'll never get into diagnostic mode. Step f) switches on/off the next stage, so follow the guide. And having done that, you must continue immediately every half second to reach function 7, or it will not work. There's a knack in it which you'll get from practising the routine.

thank you Arctic I'll try again. I already had the engine running when I tried and may not have pushed the trip quickly enough
