That's how I do the job Steve, I can also appreciate how some have difficulty manoeuvring the door back onto the pins.
On the occasions I've not had a helper to assist in rehanging the door, I use an old trolley jack to lift the door, the cup removed and replaced with a piece of timber with a slot milled in the top, on which the door edge sits safely.
This makes the job of positioning the door and dropping it back onto the pins much easier
