I bought a Mini convertible a few years ago that was Cat C, in a storm a tree had damaged the roof and a new roof from BMW was over £5k.

I bought the car for £1800, a used roof from the bay for £600 and half a days work. I sold it a couple of weeks later with a new MOT for £4500. The new owner was so pleased as a similar car with no Cat C was over £6k

Take a good look at the car you are thinking of buying, do the doors have even gaps and shut as they should. Take it for a road test and make sure it drives straight with no hands on the wheel.

Make sure your insurance company wont load you for driving a car with a Cat C, some charge extra.
