I've experienced similar problems. Put it down to the apparent belief the suppliers (and manufacturers) have that the entire public are techno whizzkids with forensic knowledge of every nut and bolt - er, sorry, those terms are for troglodyte cave dwellers now - every dot and squibble is the new lingua franca.
I can't understand why a pack of three ink cartridges are twice the cost of a new printer. I suppose the law of returns of capital says more ink will be sold than printers as they will last for ever. Until they don't.
