Ouch! that is bad luck, first thing, make sure you've got his insurance details and start a claim against his insurance. Next, start getting quotes from local bodyshops for the dent repair. Do not allow the car to be 'taken for assessment' or any of that tosh (strongest word I think I'm allowed to use here), If his insurance want to send a qualified auto assessment engineer at your convenient time to you to take a look at the car then that's fine.
