Two easy ways to tell if the car has ever had (or even has) powerfold mirrors fitted:
Either pop the window/mirror switch out from the drivers door, turn it upside down or unplug the connector to see if it is completely populated (if there are no gaps where wires could/should be, it is at least wired for powerfolds).
The other way is to pop off the internal trim (as if you were going to change the mirror) & see if your existing mirrors have one or two connectors going to them.
If it has one, they're standard mirrors.
Two connectors means that you have powerfolds that have probably have failed gearing to fold them.
It could possibly then have had a standard non-powerfold switchpack fitted.
If you do find that your mirrors are indeed powerfolds, by getting the correct switchpack, they should just work (plug & play) obviously provided that everything else is ok.
Even if you haven't got powerfolds, kits appear here & on ebay on occasions & they can be retro-fitted.
One thing to bear in mind, the earlier Mk1 Bullet powerfolds can be repaired if the gearing has failed.
The later MK1/MK2 Skullcaps are more of a sealed unit.
Both types will fit the MK1 & Mk2 (LHD items are no good for a RHD car though).
It's not unusual to find options fitted to our cars where you didn't expect them & vice versa.
I've come to the conclusion it was the luck of the draw!
