You are thinking of a hard disk with an internal platter/disc, solid state drives such as USB sticks or solid state drives (SSD) portable drives are unaffected by magnets and magnetic fields (also XRays etc at airports etc). I should have been specific on that above - edit, re read my post, I was specific lol.
