It isnt a big deal in reality for most, though could still cause issues. When I date anything in work, it normally is 09/09/2020, and it is apparently for the reason given above. If I have to type a letter using headed paper, I would normally type it as 09 September 2020. All our correspondence though is securely stored for a period of time anyway, but as it is a government department, all the ts need to be crossed, the is dotted too. Should anything come to court (which my work is extremely unlikely to - but some of the data I handle is court bound), there can be no doubt created, no matter how small.
