Hello everyone
The mechanic doesn't work on Friday but I checked the level in the master cylinder with him today as advised and the level is dropping exactly as you predicted. There are now also signs of fluid on the bottom of the bellhousing.
He prefers LUK clutch parts, is ordering the slave cylinder and will begin the job next week.
It's been frustrating but your advice has been invaluable when our spirits have been low. I'll report on the final outcome when he has finished.
