So whatever you do, I wouldn't carry on driving it. I'm no expert, and no doubt somebody with encyclopaedic knowledge like Arctic will be along to advise.
Access is pretty awkward down that side of the engine, but I know it can be done (by people more skilled than I).

Upon pulling into the garage....all lights came on and car promptly died
