I have had loads of second hand French cars, especially PSA with XUD engines, but also several Renaults, all cheap for what you get, and all remarkably tough and long-lived, with just the odd niggle. And I am currently loving being the owner of a 2003 Megane Mk1 Cabrio 1.6L, 16v. Peppy little engine, slick and positive gearbox, not immaculate, but respectable enough if a bit hairdresserish! 76,000miles, cost £575, and everything works properly. I wouldn't have the the next series of Renault's though, too much "clever" electronic stuff that broke. Nightmare!
