To me it sounds as though the socket itself has an issue when pushing that particular plug in - is the 'nose' part (center contact) longer than some others? My guess is that a short is occuring in the socket when pushing that particular pattern of plug in. This is most would be most likely due to a frayed wire or worn insulation of the wire to the centre contact in the socket.
