It's hydrogen sulphide being generated somewhere. Two most likely are the exhaust catalyst - which only applies to petrol engnes - and the aircon system - from what's known as suphur bacteria. It often stems from a damp pollen filter. Another possible cause is leakage of the crankcase breather, though this usually smells more exhaust-like.
