TreeI was adding Gum Gum exhaust paste to my back box for a good couple of years. As you say the outer skin was suffering whilst the inner skin was solid. I decided to change mine though earlier this year as the weld connecting the pipe to the back box was splitting. Once off, the full extent of rot became apparent. Hidden away on the top, it was rotten as a pear. I can't complain considering it was nearly 20 years old. I replaced it with a Klarius back box, and it now sounds a little "meaty" if that's the best way to describe it. It's not to intrusive but you can tell the quality is not of what the original was
