As said get on the mig welding forum and learn.
Dont buy the cheapest mig and gassless isn't great. Something like a Clarke 130 to 160 turbo will be fine for most jobs.
I have a couple of migs but really like my 151t though in my shed I have a ac/dc tig for alloy and stainless and my other shed I have my stick welder.
Start with a good mig and thicker steel.
Most first timer problems is a rubbish cheap welder
