I managed to get the fuel pump out today, the entire intank wiring is kaput.
There is also some black gloop in the tank, probably some form of bacteria.
So now the tank will have to drained and cleaned several times, I am also going to replace the later fuel filter side with one from an early car, that way not only is it all matched once cleaned there should be no contamination.
