I'm very pleased to report all handset functions are now working perfectly again.RESULT

Thanks chaps for the helpful thoughts and suggestions.I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to revive it and would urge people to remove the batteries when not in use as it's very easy to forget about them when the TV is not used for a while.
