Concerning viscosity, if you think that the ambient temperature in Worthing is going to drop below minus 20°C then get 5W40 oil. Otherwise MG Rover recommends 10W40 for your engine.

Regarding quantity, we have official advice that to minimise oil being drawn into the inlet manifold chamber, the level should be no higher than the mid-point on the KV6 dipstick. This equates to somewhere between 4.2 and 4.7 litres.
