Drama's over. I removed the glass again and refitted the refurbished slide after silicone-spraying the metal runners on the roof cradle. Refitted the glass and adjusted it again as per Rave (front flush or 1.0mm down, rear flush or 1.0mm up), plus levered it back with a piece of firm plastic as far as it would go (2.0mm) and it's all perfect. Unlike the vertical, there's no actual horizontal adjustment built in to the frame but for mine at least, that little pushback pressure sealed it up nicely.
