I don't think there's anything untoward in the key slot. The only things I can see are these two key guides.
Yes, the key will go into the barrel and turn.
Btw, I've unclipped the white 'plunger' thing below - I think it's what pushes the spring loaded steering lock ring in and out (post 25 refers).
Or..... the ramp-shaped metal bits on the back of the barrel push the steering lock ring in & out - and the white plunger thing is part of the transponder system.
