An FM transmitter will do the job without an app. Just plug it in to your phone, put the transmitter to a free frequency where there's just static, and tune your radio into that frequency. Then you can just use your phone to play music and it'll come out the car's speakers. Some of them are bluetooth and plug into your car's cigarette lighter, and some are AUX and some can take batteries. They're around £15. Sound quality is acceptable, I don't know if I've got a dodgy one but mine constantly crackles and there's always a high pitched whine, but they do work.
