Of course it did. The LCD display simply shows the chosen target temperature. It is not affected by the actual cabin temperature.

The air conditioning system calls for a higher fan speed when the refrigerant pressure increases. That is not necessarily related to the ambient air temperature. For example, if all the condenser fins have corroded and fallen off, the refrigerant pressure will increase and the fan speed will be faster. The outside temperature might be quite mild.
