Totally agree but this is how manufacturers keep there factories busy, I had to bin a perfectly good washing machine a couple of years ago because the hinge had been superseded and this meant I had to buy a new door to match, total cost nearly £160. I could buy a brand washing machine new for not a lot more so that is what we did.
A friend has a Renault awaiting a part, Renault no longer make this part, no aftermarket parts and all the used ones seem to have the same fault. The part is a circuit board that controls the warning lights on the dash and without it the car wont pass an MOT. Its not even a matter of soldering a piece on as there a processor built into the board and this fails.
How many cars go to scrap because of a faulty resistor or diode causing a warning light to be on or not work when it should. Such a waste.
