It would not reverse the axis. Just make it read as if the car was pointing to space.
The only way it would reverse the axis would be if it was mounted flat pointing left to right instead of back to front.
The x axis points front to back and the y axis points left to right, there is no z axis point up and down. It is a 2 dimensional sensor, not 3 dimensions. It will only work if mounted flat as per the pictures.
