A 10 mile journey should be more than enough to replace the charge used to start your 1.8 engine, assuming you don't then run it with every accessory switched on. If it is discharging severely while standing, either disconnect the battery, or find out where the leak is. I have a sorned MGF, which having eaten 2 batteries in the last year, is now disconnected after I have run it up to temperature for 10 minutes, every couple of weeks. One day soon, I'm gonna get it welded and back on the road!
