There's no performance advantage with a egr bypass, and if the new legislation does come into force the best way is to keep the original, clean it then stealthily disable it
The problem with the EGR valves is that they can take a long time to close if they're not in as new condition which is actually worse for emissions and fuel economy.
If you take 20 cars all with similar mileage and working egr, rev them to 3k then take you foot off the accelerator and then time how long it takes for the valve to shut you will get 20 different results.
From a few seconds (good) to in the worst cases over a minute.
Whoever thought this was a reliable way to control emissions really needed their head examined.
If you disable the EGR it has no negative effect on the emissions for Mot purposes.
