If anything's separated, it's the fuel filter, not the pump. Fuel filter syndrome (FFS) is (was) a very common issue with Mk2 petrol models due to the two-part filter housing becoming slack. This causes fuel to bleed and pressure drop which will eventually prevent the engine from starting.
If you're not familiar with this, do a simple keyword seach for FFS and you'll find loads of threads. The fix - if it is FFS - is the Fabled Orange Clip (forum search term is FOC).
