Took me about 2 hours on the drive to change them, hardest part was removing the gear knob that a previous owner had glued on.
Car has been perfect ever since.

Do you mean the cables themselves or the cable ends where they connect to the gearbox? I've found them to be easily disconnected and reconnected without damage when replacing the clutch, but I suppose anything can get damaged depending on how you go about it.
